Ketut Suar, one of our third batch students at Amisewaka — DLCC, is the youngest of four girls. Her older siblings have all married and left home. Her father works as a daily laborer, while her mother is a freelancer who cleans dragon fruit gardens around their neighborhood.
She didn’t have much time to enjoy her teenage years like her friends. After graduating from high school in 2021, she had to give up furthering her studies and work at a beauty salon for two years. Although her salary was not much, she regularly gave some of her earnings to help her family, who often faced financial difficulties.
Ketut wants to further her studies, especially after seeing the potential in the tourism industry that began to rise after COVID-19. Her dream is to work abroad, and has a newfound interest in the culinary world. She realized that by mastering cooking skills, she could open her own business in the future.
She loves gardening. She has a hydroponic garden at home and maintains it to meet the family’s daily vegetable needs. She is very happy that her hobby can continue at Amisewaka — DLCC because here, she is taught about permaculture gardening.
Although Ketut’s life is full of challenges and struggles, she remains determined to achieve her dreams and make a difference for her family. She believes that with hard work and strong determination, she will be able to change her family’s fate and create a better future for herself.
