Every year, Amisewaka — DLCC (DLCC) opens doors for young people in the surrounding area to pursue their dreams through tourism training. One name we’re especially proud of is Komang Rumi, a young girl from Desa Sambirenteng, a village close to DLCC, who came to us with a simple but unwavering dream: to become a chef.
Rumi’s journey with us began well before she officially joined the program. She completed a careful selection process that included an entrance test, interview, and home visit. During that visit, we saw the realities of her life and family circumstances firsthand: financial hardship, the long walks she once took to school, and the tireless commitment of her mother, who worked hard to support their family. In that moment, it became clear that Rumi deserved the opportunity to gain experience.
From the day she was accepted, Rumi committed herself fully to learning. She gained knowledge in the classroom while strengthening her practical skills in the training kitchen, where she learned cooking techniques, hygiene standards, and the discipline needed in the hospitality industry. Her consistency and dedication proved that financial hardship does not define someone with true determination.
Her hard work has now led to an important achievement. Rumi successfully passed a competitive recruitment process and was accepted as a trainee at a 5-star hotel in Sanur, Bali. This milestone is clear proof that with the right education and support, doors can open for anyone, regardless of where they come from.
In December 2026, Rumi will officially take her first step into the professional world as a trainee, carrying with her the knowledge, skills, and confidence she developed at DLCC. For us, her story is more than one student’s success; it reflects our daily mission to give young people in North Bali an equal chance to turn their dreams into reality, no matter their background.
We are proud to see Komang Rumi begin this new chapter, and we look forward to celebrating many more success stories from future scholarship recipients.
