Our second-ever batch of student intake at Amisewaka-DLCC began their orientation on June 19, 2023. The exciting 5-day initiation featured sessions on grooming, discipline, mental awareness, spirituality, environmental stewardship, and an introduction to the hospitality industry.
As a center dedicated to providing hospitality and culinary skills to the underprivileged youth of eastern and northern Bali, we ensured that students’ orientation would touch on key aspects of the industry.
An essential requirement in hospitality is the maintenance of grooming standards, which is why we brought a local barber to provide free grooming for the students.
After grooming, we dedicated the first two days to Values Education, which fosters positive attitudes, habits, and values. On the third day, we invited the Undiksha Denpasar University paramilitary group (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, ROTC in the USA) to teach students about the importance of discipline at home and in the professional setting. On that same day, we also invited a psychology professor to host a seminar on self-introspection.
On the fourth day, we prayed together, giving the students opportunities to introduce themselves to the DLCC’s deities. What followed was a visit by the Training Manager of “The Stones” (a five-star hotel) to give students some insights about what they should expect in the hospitality industry. The fifth day of orientation was about environmental sustainability, where students would begin planting, cleaning, and sustaining the DLCC garden.
