Team begins search for next year’s students

Following a successful inaugural year, the team has begun its recruitment process for unearthing the next batch of students interested in being part of the DLCC training program.

Over the past few weeks, our team has visited high schools in the area and invited senior staff and pupils to the DLCC campus for socialization in our programs. The enthusiasm and excitement has been amazing and we have already received over 60 applications.

We have been able to tell them about our first wave of students, many of whom are firmly ensconced in their internships at reputable and approved establishments, and for the most part, are performing admirably in their respective roles. These students are on a steep learning curve, have become more responsible and self-confident and have learnt to be more presentable – and it shows.

On Saturday, 25 Feb 2023, we did our first recruitment on campus, where we asked 20 students to come and take a written test about their reasons for wanting to join Amisewaka. They were also interviewed by our top staff on the content of their essays, as well as to ascertain their level of knowledge about the food industry (many come from high schools where they majored in Food Production) and to determine their competency levels in English.

We will continue with this recruitment drive on a weekly basis, until we have considered all potential candidates. Our goal is to have 150 finalists, so that we have at least 100 students in the first semester, and then 50 students for the second semester. It is more difficult to place students in June, so we will only have 50 students then. After they pass the written test and interview, we will conduct home visits to determine their level of poverty (this determines how much they pay towards their monthly fees, which ranges between $10 – $20).

While this has taken much effort from our staff in terms of time and energy, we are nevertheless excited about the search for the second batch of Amisewaka-DLCC ‘amipreneurs’! We look forward to enlisting them and helping them on their journey towards a brighter, better future.
