From Desa Les to Türkiye: The Culinary Journey of Gede Wida

Gede Wida Peri Pratama, one of our Amisewaka – DLCC graduates, is now pursuing a career in the international culinary industry. He currently works in the kitchen of Swandor Hotel, Türkiye. His journey to an overseas career was not an instant one. After completing his studies at the DLCC, Wida joined a six-month training program at Kuta Seaview Hotel, followed by six months of work experience at Rama Garden Hotel. These opportunities strengthened his skills and gave him the confidence to apply for a position abroad.

He began exploring career opportunities in Türkiye and applied to Swandor Hotel. The recruitment process, including interviews and preparations, took about six months before he officially departed for Türkiye. Thanks to his prior work experience, he felt well-prepared and didn’t face major difficulties during the process.
Wida believes that the knowledge and training he received at the DLCC have been highly valuable in his professional journey. From learning proper cooking techniques and food presentation to understanding the rhythm of working in a professional kitchen, the lessons he gained remain essential in his daily work. His approach to learning has always been consistent: practice, persistence, and dedication.

As an alumnus, Wida encourages our current students to stay motivated and never give up. He reminds them that while the process may be challenging, the results are always rewarding for those who remain determined. He also expressed sincere gratitude to the staff and team at the DLCC for their guidance and support, as well as to the donors who provided scholarships. He emphasized that determination alone is not enough; financial support plays a significant role for students from families with limited means.

Wida’s story is a true example that with education, skills, and strong determination, even young people from small villages can compete and succeed on the global stage.
