As an extension of the Amicorp Community Foundation (ACF), Amisewaka – DLCC is committed to having a positive social impact within the wider community. This time, we partnered with the John Fawcett Foundation to conduct an eyecare initiative in the Tejakula District and its surroundings. These included check-ups, distribution of eyeglasses, and free cataract surgeries for the public.
From August 29 to August 30, 2023, Amisewaka – DLCC collaborated with a team of experts from the John Fawcett Foundation to organize the initiative at the Serba Guna multipurpose building in Les Village. Over the course of two days, around 430 people participated in comprehensive eye exams.
Cataract surgeries were conducted on nine patients in need, for free. As a crucial aspect for this initiative, it was important for everyone involved that the patients felt comfortable and safe. The medical team consisted of eleven members from the John Fawcett Foundation, with Dr. Ni Nyoman Sekarsari Sp.M playing the lead role in conducting the surgeries. The first day of the event was dedicated to eye health examinations and cataract surgeries. After the examinations, participants received eyeglasses or medication based on their diagnoses. Moreover, the John Fawcett Foundation team set up a mobile eye clinic (bus) with surgical facilities for the treatment of cataract patients in the future.
Day two focused on post-operative care for patients who had undergone cataract surgery, providing care and support to ensure patients’ smooth and uncomplicated recovery. This step exemplifies the commitment by Amisewaka – DLCC and the John Fawcett Foundation to address the comprehensive eyecare needs of the community.
This initiative has profoundly touched the lives of many people in Les Village, Tejakula District, and beyond. The volunteers and medical team brought a sense of warmth and care to the community. This ACF and Amisewaka – DLCC success story will continue, delivering a broader and profound positive impact for people and communities in need.
