Culinary training

DLCC will feature professional hands-on training supported by experts in the culinary industry.

The focus will be on food & beverage, safety and preparation, and cooking. There will also be classes in English, computer literacy, knife skills, cooking methods, international cuisine, health and nutrition and business education. A commercialized and modern kitchen with an attached restaurant will operate as multi-function and practice classroom which will be established to deliver the latest in training in culinary and service disciplines.

The intention is for the restaurant to also help raise funds independently as the trainees showcase their new skills and abilities.

Originally derived from the words permanent culture, ‘permaculture’ has gone beyond its roots in looking at strategies to create a sustainable food growing methods to become a worldwide movement encompassing all aspects of how we as human beings can live harmoniously in relation to our earth and our finite resources – a permanent culture.

Permaculture gardens in the DLCC will perform the dual purpose of landscaping as well as provide the produce used at the restaurant, and by teachers and students for the cooking classes.

This holistic approach will not only give skills needed for gainful employment but will also raise the awareness of the students and their respective communities on the importance of creating a sustainable agricultural system.

Cultural Preservation

At the World Culture Day held in November 2013, the government of Bali promised to focus on developing the creative industries and preserving cultural heritage.

The DLCC will incorporate classes in cultural heritage such as Balinese dance, gamelan music and other local arts and handicrafts. All students will be required to take one of these modules as part of their overall training. This will not only provide them with a sense of cultural self-worth, but also give them another skill with which they could earn income.

Living Values Education

Living Values Education (LVE) is a way of conceptualizing education that promotes the development of values-based learning systems in which the search for meaning and purpose is at the heart of education. LVE emphasizes the worth, dignity, and integrity of each person involved in the provision of education, in the home, school, and community. In quality education, LVE supports the overall development of the individual and a culture of positive values in each society and throughout the world, believing that education is a purposeful activity designed to help humanity flourish. English language training will form an important part of the classes as well.
